Before the snow arrives, I cab to Christopher Street to see a matinee of "So Help Me God".
Maurine Dallas Watkins wrote the play in 1929. This is its first production.

I love old plays but this one needs work: cutting, shaping, focus. And the Lortelle is the wrong theater for this play; the sound is dead; the sets are cramped. It needs a classic old Broadway house.

Kristen Johnson was hilarious (Tallulah Bankhead by way of Carol Burnette and Charles Busch) .

The play's message - (it's all about money and survival in the theatre - in life?) - is an ugly truth all theatre folk face.
