I watch the movie with Elia Kazan that Jackie lent me.
It's called "City of Conquests" and stars James Cagney and Anne Sheridan.
The movie was made in 1940 and is totally entertaining until the second act when
you can see how it's all going to work out.
The movie takes places in the West Village but was clearly shot in the Paramount back lot.
The opening scene is on the Williamsburg Bridge.
A young sexy Anthony Quinn plays the villain.
Elia Kazan is excellent.
At one point, Cagney says to Ann Sheridan that he'll make something of himself and get them out of the Village so they can move somewhere decent, like the Bronx.
